Some SRAM glitches occur in Pokémon Gold and Silver and possibly Pokémon Crystal. This is a common effect of viewing specific Glitch Unown which may corrupt parts of the memory in a predictable way.

The SRAM glitches include:

  • Enabling Mystery Gift on the menu without talking to the girl in green on Celadon Department Store's fifth floor.
  • Mystery Gift item corruption — The player receives a certain Mystery Gift that can be picked up by talking to the NPC in blue on the second floor of a Pokémon Center.
  • Mailbox glitches — The player's mailbox is corrupted. It is possible to obtain more than 10 mail (the maximum number of mail) which can corrupt the overworld, enable further corruption or allow the player to withdraw a 'mail' as a non-mail item.
  • Trainer House glitches — A glitch Trainer appears at the Viridian City Trainer House. Their name may freeze the game due to being unterminated, but on other occasions it may be possible to battle them.
