A game-altering device is any device that lets somebody to things on a game that would not normally be doable. Game-altering devices are commonly used for finding glitches and beta information. Common cheating devices include GameShark, Action Replay, Game Genie, and Codebreaker.

GameShark

The GameShark is a very commonly used game-altering device, created by Mad Catz, Inc.. The interfaces, how it works, and the codes used with it are almost identical to those of the Action Replay.

GameShark has also become a verb, e.g. "to shark" meaning to use a GameShark. It is also sometimes used as a generic term to refer to all game-altering devices.

Action Replay

Action Replay is a very commonly used game-altering device, created by Datel. The interfaces, how it works, and the codes used with it are almost identical to those of the GameShark.

Game Genie

Game Genie is a game-altering device created by Danworld, Inc.. It is not as commonly used as the GameShark or Action Replay.

Codebreaker

Codebreaker is a game-altering device made by Pelican. It is not as often used as the GameShark or Action Replay.
